My group of friends called JamFam planned to go to a japanese buffet called Makino Chaya’s so we can all hang and dress up and stuff. We put it up as a fb event called “Fancy Smansy Dinner” where it was basically supposed to be prom status. This was planned maybe 2-3 weeks ago, and eventually the boys decided that they would be paying for all the girls, because they’re cool like that. So comes the day, and we all meet up at Wal-Mart parking lot. There’s 16 of us girls and 7 boys (we’re a big group of friends).

It felt like prom. So when we left, all of us girls noticed that the drivers (boys, since we carpooled) were driving the opposite direction of the restaurant and instead to an apartment building. At first we were backseat-driving, making remarks like, “You’re in the wrong lane! Turn around now!” and then we pull up to a nice apartment building and we’re like, “What’s going on? What?” we had feelings that something super unexpected was gonna happen. Suddenly, all the cars stopped in the front of the building, all the drivers come out of the cars and start opening all the car doors for us ladies and lead us into friends’ — Twinkle and Lynn — apartment (some of us whom we haven’t met yet, so it was really unexpected). All the while all of us girls were freaking out, saying things like, “Omg, what the hell! I hate you! etc etc.” Because we’re completely caught off guard, and it’s not like we’re all “involved” or anything. We’re all just a bunch of friends and all of a sudden our friends start being all chivalrous and stuff, so we’re — I guess you can day — in shock.
Once we enter the room, it’s all made up: a banner saying “Photobooth”, music playing, an area in a corner made up for taking pictures w/rose petals on the ground, + props on the side like scarves, hats, roses to take pictures with. 3 more girls and 4 more guys of our friends were there to greet us. they had all of us girls take pictures (since many of our friends are into photography) and it really felt like some “lifetouch” kind of stuff. it was….baffling. we still didn’t know what was going on.
After all of us girls had taken pictures, they had quieted us down and my friend Lorenzo said somewhere along the lines of, “I really appreciate that you ladies could be here with us tonight, and I’m sorry we told you we’re going to Makino Chaya’s, but we have another surprise for you…” and then he pulls a string connected to the banner, and under that banner was another red banner, but a legit printed one saying “Twinkle’s Fine Dining” “Grand opening” with hearts. Then they open the curtains and doors, and there standing out in the balcony, 11 more of our guy friends in suits with tables for us to sit, COMPLETE with centerpieces, music clippies, roses, candies, CUSTOMIZED menus, utensils wrapped in napkins with cute plastic rings for each girl, candles, the whole deal. They had even laid out a red carpet for us to walk on as we walked to our tables.![]()
^Above is a picture of all of our guys.
They had us all seated and announced that it was an appreciation dinner for us girls. They wanted us to feel special and that tonight, so they were catering to us. They were going to be our waiters, so we don’t have to lift a finger or get up out of our seats, unless we had to use the bathroom, of course. They served us our drinks (which consisted of water, apple cider, coffees, juices, and even flavored waters). They even had us drink out of wine glasses. The coffees were legit, since the one serving us the coffee used to work at Starbucks so he knew what he was doing. They got the drinks for us, always made sure we had our fill, when girls got cold, they gave them their blazers, they made sure to push in our chairs after we had gotten up, SANG to us while we ate, and even gave us MASSAGES and talked in accents when we asked for it! It was really cute because whenever they would ask what we would want, they addressed us as “ma’am” and were proper as if they were getting paid to do so, when it was all voluntary. It was amazing, and really really REALLY surprising.

^ They even took away all of our phones at one point just so we can focus on the dinner.
They gave us a full course meal:
Started out with some bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar
Then came some Leek Soup with bacon and egg
Then had some Salad
Then it was a choice between Spaghetti and Meatballs and Salmon
Dessert was a Lava Chocolate Cake with a Strawberry on top.
What made things better was that it was ALL homemade. They cooked it all, y’all, right there in the kitchen. it seriously was some fancy smansy ish because it was delicious and presentable, all the while the boys were standing on the side basically watching over all of us girls making sure we all were okay. Food was amazing, and service was outstanding.
^yeah, that was BAKED. and let me tell you, it was SO GOOD.
(unfortunately I do not have any other pictures of any other dishes, but imagine some nice looking dishes, shall we :])
During dinner, they had a game set up to win prizes: Pin the Heart on the Heart, which is basically Valentine’s day version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey.
They even had uploaded all the pictures we had taken at the cute Photobooth corner and made a slideshow, which they played on the TV while we ate.
They printed out our own pictures and our group picture, put it in envelopes with specific names written on each, gave it to each of us along with a Ring Pop.
After the main course, they had us go inside the apartment to watch a video they had made (I may post later). The video basically explained that the whole thing was just to express how much they appreciate us girls. To show that we’re worth it and what not, because we had a great impact on their life. They had been planning this night for 3-4 weeks prior. It was baffling. (They also served dessert during this time).
They had also bought one of those oversized Valentine’s day cards and had all of us sign it for the two (Twinkle and Lynn) that owns the apartment, for lending us their home.
I know I’ve said it before, but it was seriously an amazing night. Must I remind you, we’re all just a loving big bunch of FRIENDS (my brother was a part of this whole thing and he catered to me, just to solidify this statement). All of us girls just went out tonight with the mindset of another hangout, and suddenly we’re getting catered to with homemade food, with the candles, rose petals, serenade, and EVERYTHING. The guys’s setup was so beautiful and impressive. Everything must have taken them a great amount of effort. There was a lot of big things, and all the small things I’ve noticed too. The printed banner, I understand is pricey to get especially if it’s just for a friend’s hangout-thing so that was impressive. The set up of the table, I couldn’t believe they actually had some cute centerpieces put together so well, with the christmas lights draping above us, they had to put rose petals on the ground, get props for the photobooth, wrap the utensils with the napkins and tie the ring…too much! I still don’t know what we — or I for that matter — did to deserve such an event, but this shows to me that chivalry is definitely not dead, it lives within my amazing group of friends. I am utmost blessed. Never in my imagination did I even think they would go to this extent; I don’t even think us girls could do all the things that they had done! This is a memory I honestly, truly, wholeheartedly will cherish forever in my heart. They give me hope and inspiration, and I don’t care what anyone says I believe that I have a damn right to say that I have THE BEST friends. I love you JamFam.For all you boys, take some notes because this is what JUST FRIENDS did. For anything more romantic, you’re gonna have to top that. just saying ;]. I don’t even know how to break this whole event to my own boyfriend. LOL.
